Apple Awarded Synthetic Selfie Patent

Apple was recently awarded a patent for synthetic group selfies. Essentially, it is a way to create a video chat session, invite others, and impose them on to your background. This would permit the user to take a group selfie when the group is not actually present. It would be a great way to practice social distancing. However, the timing of this is just a coincidence. Apple filed the patent back in July of 2018 long before the coronavirus outbreak.
