Alexagate Stops Your Echo From Listening

Smart speakers like the Amazon Echo are growing in popularity. Along with the growing sales comes a basket of privacy concerns. Since Alexa – Amazon’s digital assistant framework – devices are always listening, many folks don’t want an Amazon robot hearing their personal conversations. Privacy advocates has taken a strong stance against the “always on” functionality. To combat this concern, a new device has hit the market. They call it Alexagate and it has a single purpose… to stop Alexa from listening. The device is essentially a white noise generator that sits on top of your Alexa to drown out conversations. The $99 piece of hardware fits most Echo devices and some third party devices as well.

However, it begs the question… should I even own an Echo if I need to buy a second device to make me feel safe?
