Geek Of The Week: Max Rebo

Geek Of The Week: Max Rebo

Without a doubt, the Star Wars franchise has introduced geeks to a ton of characters. Many introduced during the films, have been profiled in novels and comics that explore the characters’ backstories. A lot of Star Wars fans remember the band who played at Jabba’s palace from 1983’s Return of the Jedi. The musicians were led by a blue elephant-looking creature known as Max Rebo. He may seems like a random extra, but Max actually has a story.

After having trouble finding work in the galaxy, Rebo and his band agreed to entertain at Jabba’s palace in exchange for food and lodging. His instrument of choice is the red ball organ, a keyboard-like instrument from a galaxy far far away. It may seem as though the entire band perished in the sail barge incident at the Sarlacc pit, but Max and his crew actually made it off the barge last minute. Years later, Rebo joined the Rebel Alliance as an entertainer for the troops. After the fall of the Empire, he opened a restaurant called Max’s Flanth House which expanded into an interplanetary chain. See, there’s more to this character than you thought.
