Apple Delays iOS Privacy Update Until 2021

Apple had plans to roll out a new privacy feature as part of iOS 14, which is slated to arrive later this month. The new feature allows iOS users to opt out of ad trackers. However, after backlash from Facebook and others, Apple is removing this feature from iOS 14. Facebook claims this feature could impact their ad-based revenue by up to 50%. The privacy update will instead be rolled out as an OS patch in early-2021. Apple is hoping this will give sites like Facebook time to prepare. If a privacy-based patch can slash Facebook’s revenue that much, they probably need to rethink their strategy. Undoubtedly, more operating systems will follow Apple’s lead.
