Apple Sues Electronics Recycler GEEP

Apple has filed a suit against GEEP, a recycling partner in Canada, for allegedly selling Apple devices illegally. Reportedly, Apple did a random audit of 500,000 devices that were sent to recycling centers. They found over 103,000 of them were still accessing the Internet. BTW, this figure only includes devices which access the Internet through a cellular connection. WiFi only devices are much harder to trace.

After looking through some paperwork, Apple found nearly all the 100,000+ devices were sent to GEEP for recycling. The lawsuit claims the partner did not recycle these iPads, iPhones, & Apple Watches and instead sold them to consumers. Needless to say, the Right to Repair groups are chiming in against Apple’s perspective. Regardless, GEEP entered into a partnership to recycle electronics not resell them.
