iPhone Release Date Impacts Apple’s Quarterly Results

Apple just released their latest quarterly results. Typically, the 3rd quarter of the year (4th fiscal quarter) is a big one for Apple because the new iPhones are unveiled in September. This year Apple delayed the announcement until October. The results undoubtedly reflect this change. Year-over-year growth was up in every category (Macs, iPads, iPods, etc.) except iPhones, which were down almost 21%. Apple’s overall revenue showed a 1% increase, but the low iPhone sales significantly impacted the quarter. Having the holiday shopping season and iPhone 12 announcement in the same quarter may result in a record breaking next quarter, but today’s results led to a sharp drop in Apple’s stock price.
