Amazon Is Now Running Alexa On Thier Own AI Chips

Amazon acquired silicon chip maker Annapurna Labs in January of 2015. The Israeli company specializes in creating chips for artificial intelligence (AI). Over the last five years, they’ve been adapting these chips to run Alexa more efficiently. To be clear, this is the server-side component of Alexa, not the circuits inside the Echo devices. Two years ago, Amazon announced the Inferntia AI chip, which they were testing in their data centers. This week, the company announced Alexa is now running on Inferentia infrastructure. Amazon says this move has resulted in approximately 25% less latency at about 30% of the cost.
