WhatsApp To Stop Supporting Older Phones In 2021

WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps in the world. Acquired by Facebook in 2014, the app has had its share of controversy, but seems to stay at the top of the app store download lists. Starting in January, WhatsApp will prune the supported operating systems. Phones running iOS 9 or Android 4.0.3 will lose their ability to run WhatsApp in the new year.

If this sounds like deja vu, that’s because the company did something similar last year. It’s not surprising considering the age of these operating systems. However, being that WhatsApp is a popular messaging platform in developing countries – where users may not always have the means to upgrade – it could frustrate a small percentage of the user base.
