Smartwatches May Detect Covid-19 Symptoms Early

Researchers at Mount Sinai Medical Center have determined Apple Watches, and other similar smartwatches, can detect COVID-19 infections before symptoms exist. After analyzing thousands of patients, they found an irregular heartbeat pattern that happens when a person is infected with the coronavirus. Smartwatches can easily detect this because they monitor heart rates.

Additionally, many of them can monitor body temperature which is also an early warning sign. However, the heart rate pattern seems to manifest itself much earlier, so detection at this level could really stop the spread of the current pandemic. Just as your smartwatch can monitor your fitness activities through the day without you knowing, so can it monitor your health. This technology may be able to be leveraged for future disease detection as well.
