Geek Of The Week: Wanda Maximoff

Geek Of The Week: Wanda Maximoff

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and Marvel comics will undoubtedly recognize this week’s geek as the Scarlet Witch. Her story varies a bit between the comics and movies, but this post will focus on the MCU and her new series on Disney+, WandaVision.

Maximoff in WandaVision

Wanda and her twin brother Pietro grew up in Sokovia. After their parents were killed by weapons designed by Tony Stark (a former GOTW), the two joined HYDRA where Wolfgang von Strucker’s experiments gave them both superpowers. Wanda is telekinetic, telepathic, and can control energy. Pietro gained superhuman speed. Eventually, the pair joined forces with The Avengers and Pietro was killed during the battle that defeated Ultron. After the battle, Wanda developed a romantic relationship with another Avenger, Vision. They are the namesake of WandaVision and starts of the new show.

The new series on Disney+ puts Wanda and Vision in some sort of an alternate reality that resembles American sitcoms of the past. There’s only been a few episodes so far, but it’s very good. Fans are asking a lot of questions but I’m sure Marvel will answer them as the show continues. I am anxious to see where this series is headed.
