2020 was supposed to be the year of 5G. While several manufacturers did unveil 5G smartphones during last year, the masses still feel it is overpriced. In fact, as of Q4 2020, 5G handsets were only accounting for 14% of smartphones sold. Now, 2021 is supposed to be the year of 5G but we’re seeing another trend emerging.
Global superpowers like the US and China area already fighting over 6G market dominance. The adoption is 6G networking is still probably a decade away, but some are calling it the next industrial revolution. Estimated to be nearly 100 times the speed of 5G, 6G will create a framework that enables all kinds of new technologies. For instance, the projected holograms of science fiction movies could happen with 6G.
