Framework Unveils A Future-Proof Laptop

A startup named Framework aims to change the laptop industry with a fully upgradable laptop ecosystem. Essentially every part of the laptop – screen, motherboard, memory, battery, hard drive, etc. – is replaceable. Framework will offer a functional laptop starting in late 2021. Every part of the laptop is replaceable, down to the ports. This makes it easy to switch from HDMI to VGA or USB Type A to USB Type C.

The idea is simple, this should be the last laptop you buy. Then as the technology changes, you simply upgrade the parts to stay current. Screens, motherboards, etc will be available through the Framework store. Needless to say, this concept has been tried before, but Framework is rethinking the way they offer parts and hoping to gain adoption with the open source hardware community.
