Ballmer Gives CES Keynote… No News

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer took the stage earlier today, and kicked off the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show with his keynote speech. The speech was reminiscent of previous years’ keynotes, focusing on Windows Phone 7, Surface, laptops/netbooks, and Xbox Kinect. The statistics presented during the keynote were focused around the Kinect controller. Apparently, Microsoft has already sold 8 million of them, exceeding their goal of 5 million.

Ballmer demonstrated the new Kinect Avatar system, similar to Nintendo’s Mii for Wii, where users can make avatar versions of themselves and interact with other avatars online. He got a few laughs by unveiling an avatar of himself (shown above). He also announced that the online service associated with their gaming console, Xbox Live, has grown to 30 million users. Wow! That is impressive… but where is the other news?¬†On the upside, they did demo a new game for Windows Phone 7 called Fable Coin Golf. That’s big news… right? Oh Ballmer. icon neutral Ballmer Gives CES Keynote... No News
