IDC Predicts WP7 Will Be #2 Mobile OS By 2015

Research firm IDC released an interesting prediction earlier this week. They postulate that Windows Phone 7 will be the 2nd most popular smartphone operating system, overtaking iOS & BlackBerry, by 2015. Essentially, they expect Android to have 45% of the market by 2015, followed by WP7 with 21%, and iOS trailing with 15.3%. They expect BlackBerry to drop to 13.7%, putting “the big 4″ in control of a collective 95% of the market. These numbers tell a different story from the recent ComScore statistics. Their research showed Microsoft with only 8% of the current market. Being that Microsoft and Nokia are partnering on WP7 handsets, I’m sure this will increase the popularity… but those are still some pretty remarkable numbers. From 8% to 21% in four years? Good luck.
