World’s Largest Windows Phone Arrives In Times Square

Windows Phone 7.5, codenamed Mango, was officially released yesterday. To celebrate the event, Microsoft erected a six-story Windows Phone in New York City’s Times Square (in front of Macy’s). The release event also included a live performance by Far East Movement, who performed on a stage inside one of the giant phone’s tiles (shown above).

Everyone who showed up was offered free pizza. The tiles on the phone are actually monitors which display video showcasing the features of the new mobile OS (most of them focusing on social networking). The exhibit will remain on display throughout the holiday shopping season. Microsoft is clearly putting a lot of effort behind this new mobile platform. We’ll see if it catches on.
