Windows Is Finally Removing The 3D Objects Folder

Several years ago, when it appeared 3D was going to be the next big things, Microsoft added a 3D Objects folder to Windows Explorer. Then apps like Paint 3D arrived and 3D effects were added to Photos. Needless to say, the user base didn’t run to 3D and Microsoft has been quietly removing these features with the past several updates.

Despite 3D frameworks being removed, the 3D Objects folder remains and it’s not necessarily intuitive to get rid of it. Many users are annoyed by it as it serves no purpose but shows up in your Windows Explorer view whether you want it or not (see above). As of Windows 10 21H2 the folder will disappear permanently. This Window Update is expected to arrive during the second half of the year.
