CHIP Tech Coming To Smarthomes This Year

Smarthome fans may have heard of the Connected Home over IP (CHIP) project. It aims to create new standards for smarthome devices that allow them to interoperate. Apple, Google, Amazon, and others are collaborating in the effort. According to a webinar delivered earlier this week, these companies are planning to have CHIP-compliant devices on store shelves before the end of 2021.

The first devices will likely include remotely-controlled lighting, blinds, thermostats, door locks, garage door openers, and home security systems. CHIP frameworks may also make their way into TVs and Wi-Fi routers.
