Apple Event Yields New iMacs & More

Apple held their first special event of 2021 earlier today. It was a virtual event streamed from the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, CA. With a handful of announcements, this was an excellent one to kick off 2021.

The big announcement for today was a new line of iMacs. In addition to the M1 chip, the new models have a new 24″ screen size with an industrial redesign. These iMacs come in 7 different colors starting at $1299. Speaking of colors, Apple also unveiled a new purple finish for the iPhone 12. Both of these colorful devices go on sale this month with ship dates in May.

Another big announcement focused on the iPad Pro line. It will also receive Apple’s ARM-based M1 chip along with a redesigned XDR screen and 5G connectivity. The new models come in 2 sizes, 11″ and 12.9″, starting at $799. Apple also refreshed the Apple TV line with a redesigned remote and 4K resolution. The new Apple TV has a $179 price tag. The refreshed iPad Pro and Apple TV will be available for preorder later this month.

Finally, Apple unveiled a new product called AirTags. It is a small sensor you can attach to pretty much anything and then locate it using Apple’s Find My app. You can put an AirTag on your keys, on your luggage, or in your backpack and then you’ll always be able to find it. These little sensors cost $29 each.
